Dry Erase Town

So I did this a few weeks ago for my little Boom and Bug.

They love it!  All you need are:

1. A cheap see through plastic shower curtain (got mine at Walmart for $2.33)
2. Permanent marker
3. A black  (or any color) paint markers
4. If you have no drawing skills like me: web access to this awesome site: http://howtodraw.123peppy.com
 - It is technically a step by step drawing site for kids and that is right at my skill level!

It took me an hour, mostly because I watched the videos and drew my town step by step from the videos.  I then went over it with paint pens because dry erase markers wipe off permanent marker from plastic (good thing to know if your little ones ever draw on things they shouldn't - which of course mine never do!

Now they can color while I cook, play little people town. run cars over it or mix of all three.  Boom has had hours of fun with this and it cost me $2.33 and an hour of my time after the girls went to sleep!

Wax Paper Leaves

Boom is very into leaves these days. I cannot begin to count the number of leaves I have found in our house.  Last weekend was beautiful here in Ohio and I took both Boom and Bug to the nature preserve.   Since it was such a pretty day, I took along a large freezer bag and let Boom fill it with leaves.  Needless to say she LOVED this and we came home with a freezer bag full of leaves.

Well today is not so pretty, in fact you could say it is down right yucky.  Rainy, windy, cold...all the things you expect from Fall, but still disappointing since it was 80 (yes you read that right) yesterday.  So I decided to preserve the pretty leaves from the weekend for Boom because it looks as though "pretty" leaf time is gone.

My mom used to do this for my sister and I and it is a simple, easy and fun project.

Supplies;
Leaves
2 pieces wax paper
Iron (set to cotten setting)
Wash cloth/dish cloth

While your iron is warming put some leaves on one piece of wax paper.  I like to write the year on this wax paper too.  Cover the leaves with the other wax paper.  Place your wash cloth or dish towel over the wax paper and press until the wax paper melts together.  Then TADA!

Boom loves these and is going to hang them in her room tomorrow.

Hint: If you are going to cut them out make sure you get the wax paper all the way melted around the leaves, otherwise it will start to pull apart.

Rainy Day Fun

Well it is not actually raining but it is cold and yucky outside and Boom loves to be outside. Needless to say rainy days are not our favorite...for that matter we can lump cold snowy days in Ohio under the same category!
Since it is not a nice day, I decided to get out our finger paints.  Our kitchen window looks out onto her swing set, so I let her pictures dry on the window.  This brightens up our day!
We used the Crayola finger paint tubes.  There are lots of make your own fingerpaints options availble on the web, but today I went the easy route!

Here are Boom's pretty pictures!
